چکیده

Background: Neonatal jaundice is a very common condition worldwide, occurring in up to 60% of term and 80% pre-term newborns the 1st week life most cause for readmission. The present study was conducted evaluate predictive value umbilical cord blood albumin level subsequent development neonatal healthy neonates. find usefulness predicting significant jaundice. Methods Methods: This hospital-based prospective 100 Cord estimation done at birth. Total serum bilirubin all babies with clinically suspected 72–96 h age. neonates were divided into three Groups A, B, C based on levels <2.8 g/dL, 2.8–3.3 >3.3 respectively. main outcome inferred terms ≥17 mg/dL, newborn required phototherapy, exchange transfusion. Results: had 21, 35, 44 newborns, In Group 18 (85.7%) total >17 which 16 (76.19%) phototherapy 2 (9.52%) needed 23 (65.7%) B developed jaundice, 12 (34.2%) none them C, 15 (34.09%) 1 (2.2%) transfusion (p<0.001). Conclusion: ≤2.8 g/dL risk factor developing hyperbilirubinemia that requires early intervention, while probably safe discharge. Hence, this can help identify at-risk routine determination be advocated keep track

Cord Blood Alkaline Phosphatase as an Indicator of Neonatal Jaundice

BACKGROUND Management of hyperbilirubinemia remains a challenge for neonatal medicine because of the risk of neurological complications related to the toxicity of severe hyperbilirubinemia. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to examine the validity of cord blood alkaline phosphatase level for predicting neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between October and December 201...

Evaluation of the first day transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) level as a predictor of hyperbilirubinemia in healthy term neonates

Background: The readmission rate for neonatal jaundice has been increased in recent years. This has been attributed to shorter length of postpartum hospital stays without comprehensive follow-up. The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of pre-discharge transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) levels for prediction of subsequent hyperbilirubinemia in healthy term neonates. Metho...

Umbilical cord bilirubin as a predictor of neonatal jaundice: a retrospective cohort study

BACKGROUND Hyperbilirubinaemia is a major cause of neonatal morbidity. Early identification of those infants most at risk might allow the development of targeted primary preventative therapy and follow-up. The objective of this study was to assess whether arterial umbilical cord bilirubin (aUCB) level at delivery predicts the development of neonatal jaundice in term deliveries. METHODS Retros...

Predictive value of umbilical cord serum bilirubin for subsequent jaundice in healthy term newborns

. Introduction: Jaundice is common in neonatal period and in severe type cause neurotoxicity (Kernicterus), so diagnosis and treatment of severe hyperbilirubinemia is very important. This study investigates the predictive value of umbilical cord serum bilirubin (UCSB) for subsequent jaundice in healthy term newborns. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 341 normal term (gestational age>37 we...

Umbilical Cord Bilirubin Level as a Predictive Indicator of Neonatal Jaundice

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Neonatal jaundice is a major problem among infants in the first weeks of life. Research on several indicators of severe neonatal jaundice including alpha-fetoprotein and umbilical cord bilirubin level has indicated contradictory results. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the significance of umbilical cord bilirubin level as a predictive indicator ...
